Letter of Invitation to the 8th International

Symposium on Teacher Education in East Asia

Dear Ms. / Mr.________

Teacher education in East Asia has stepped into a stage of significant transformation since 1990’s with the rapid development of knowledge economy. In order to exchange the experience of the teacher education reform in East Asia, the 8th International Symposium on Teacher Education in East Asia is planned to be held in Northeast Normal University from September 25 to 26, 2013. Teachers and postgraduates who are engaged in teacher education research from the member universities of International Consortium for Universities of Education in East Asia (ICUE) and other institutions of higher learning are expected to participate in the symposium. The related matters are hereby notified as follows:

I.Theme of the Symposium
The theme of the symposium is the “Teacher Education in East Asia in the Knowledge Society” and the discussion will be focused on the following issues:
1. The system, mechanism and mode by which universities cooperate with the local governments, and schools;
2. The measures of organizational reform within teacher education institutions;
3. The major measures and achievements of curriculum reform of teacher education;
4. The quality assurance of teacher education.

II.Time of the Symposium
From September 25 to 26, 2013(register on September 24).

III.Place and Venue of the Symposium
Redbuds Hotel (5688 Renmin Street, Changchun, Jilin Province, PRC, 130022, Tel: +86-431-85687888)

IV.Languages of the Symposium
The working languages of this symposium are Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the keynote speech, so presenters could deliver their speeches in their native languages. Interpreters will not be provided in group discussions and presenters could deliver their speeches either in their native languages or in English.

V.Papers for the Symposium
Papers and PPTs for the speeches shall be submitted by the presenters. Papers can be written either in native languages or in English. If it is written in a native language, an English abstract with no less than 1,000 words should be provided.
The deadline for submitting the titles and abstracts of the papers is June 30, 2013. The deadline for submitting the paper is August 10, 2013. The PPTs should be submitted before September 18, 2013.

VI.School Visit
A school visit to the Experimental Zone for Teacher Education Innovation of Northeast Normal University will be arranged for the attendees. They could voluntarily participate in the visit free of charge, but registration is required in advance.

VII.Fees for the Symposium
Researchers (within a limit of 3 persons from each university) and graduate students from the member universities of International Consortium for Universities of Education in East Asia (ICUE) are exempt from registration fees. participants from other universities (within a limit of 2 persons) shall pay a registration fee of RMB 500 (to be paid when register). Accommodations will be arranged by the organizing committee but accommodation fees need to be covered by the participants.

IX. Return Receipt
For the smooth arrangement of accommodations, the inspection visit and the conference, please fill in and send back the return receipt to the organizing committee by e-mail before April 30, 2013. Your accommodations will be arranged in advance in accordance with your return receipt. Reception problems caused by no return receipt will be on your own account.

China-Japan Symposium on the “Systems, Contents and Approaches of Teacher Education in the Knowledge Society”

In order to discuss the systems, contents and approaches of teacher education in China and Japan in the knowledge society, The Academy for Research in Teacher Education of Northeast Normal University and the Curriculum Center for Teachers of Tokyo Gakugei University have been undertaking collaborative researches on teacher education since 2010. The China-Japan Symposium on Systems, Contents and Approaches of Teacher Education in the Knowledge Society is planned to be held on September 27, 2013 in Northeast Normal University to summarize and exchange the initial research achievements and to deepen further collaborative researches. Those who are interested in teacher education are welcome to participate in the symposium. The relevant particulars are notified as follows:

I.Theme of the Symposium
The theme of the symposium is ‘systems, contents and approaches of teacher education in the knowledge society’. The following issues will be focused on:
1. Teacher capacities in the knowledge society
2. Teachers’ trajectories and its influencing factors
3. Progress and achievements in the reform of teacher education models
4. Lesson study and school-based in-service teacher training

II.Place and Venue of the Symposium
Multi-function Conference Room on 2nd floor of Northeast Normal University Library

III.Languages of the Symposium
The working languages of this symposium are Chinese and Japanese.

IV.Papers for the Symposium
